Japanese Maple (Acer Palmatum) Bloodgood Medium

Considered the gold standard of purple-leaved Japanese Maples, the 'Bloodgood' is celebrated for its deep, rich, wine-red foliage that holds its color exceptionally well throughout the summer. As an upright, vase-shaped tree, it provides a sophisticated, dark architectural presence that contrasts beautifully with lighter green or variegated plants. Its delicate, hand-shaped leaves turn an even more intense, fiery crimson in the autumn, creating a spectacular seasonal finale.

Sunlight

Partial Shade. This variety is known for its better tolerance to heat than many other red maples. Ideally, position it where it will get morning sun and some light protection from the harsh, direct rays of the afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch

Watering

Moderate. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the active growing season. Like all Acer palmatum varieties, it prefers a well-hydrated environment but must not be left sitting in sodden, waterlogged ground.

Soil & Drainage

Thrives in rich, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. If you are planting in a container, use an ericaceous potting mix or a high-quality, free-draining loam. Adding a layer of mulch around the base will help retain soil moisture and protect the shallow root system.
